Aion Goes Free-To-Play In Europe

Aion Goes Free-To-Play In Europe

None

You have to admit, free-to-play MMOs are becoming more common than pay-to-play MMOs these days. Aion is the next MMO to jump on the free-to-play bandwagon. Publisher Gameforge announced its free-to-play conversion today, though this will only affect players in Europe.

Executive product director Volker Boenigk said that the core gameplay of Aion would remain intact, though minor changes would be made to the interface itself. “Aion will raise the bar of what players can expect from a free-to-play title, not only in terms of game content and quality, but in terms of graphical fidelity and visual beauty,” he said.”The developers at NCsoft have put a great amount of effort into maintaining the engine and updating it with improved visuals while also maintaining moderate hardware requirements.”

Well, it seems as if the last bastions of pay-to-play MMO gaming are World of Warcraft and the upcoming Star Wars: The Old Republic. You have to ask yourself though, is the age of the pay-to-play MMO at an end?
