Amazon Gets Its Fingers In The Free-To-Play Pie

Amazon Gets Its Fingers In The Free-To-Play Pie

None

First, Amazon got a digital storefront for games. It’s often redundant with Steam, but some of the titles don’t tie into Valve’s digital distribution service. Then, Steam started providing access to clients for free-to-play games, particularly of the MMO bent. Now, Amazon is following suit.

The latest addition to Amazon’s digital storefront is the free-to-play section, which promises not only bonus in-game stuff for downloading the games through them, but also the sale of digital goods tied to the games, enabling the online distributor to make a little money off of the freemium business.

Games up there now include RPGs such as Rappelz and Shin Megami Tensei Imagine, as well as a dress-up game (presumably aimed at the fairer sex) and, of all things, the Battlestar Galactica F2P online game. Correct me if I’m wrong, but wasn’t that (and Drakensang Online, which is also on the service) browser-based? My, the times they are a-changin’.
