It may sound crazy if you haven’t been following Atelier like I have, but Atelier Firis: The Alchemist and the Mysterious Journey is the eighteenth title in the series. Eighteenth! And that’s not even counting spin-offs. This long-running JRPG franchise stars (mostly) adolescent girls whose coming-of-age stories revolve around the rare art of alchemy. Keeping with their annual tradition, Koei Tecmo has announced that Atelier Firis will be joining the North American lineup come Spring 2017.
Atelier Firis is a direct sequel to last year’s Atelier Sophie: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Book , and features returning characters in its supporting cast. This time, the story follows Firis, a budding alchemist who takes the first step into the world outside her isolated town at age 15. She and her sister embark on a journey to find out what they want from their lives by experiencing what the world has to offer.
To commemorate the game’s localization announcement, Koei Tecmo has released a teaser trailer for the game, which you can view below. It’s worth noting that Atelier Firis was reportedly very buggy when it released in Japan earlier this year, so hopefully those issues will be ironed out for the game’s Western launch.
