BioWare Talks Mass Effect 2 Player Stats

None

One rarely thinks about it when playing a game, however, many developers like to keep tabs on how players are playing their titles. This isn’t a case of big brother tracking your every movement, but instead, is a way for developers to see what worked and what didn’t or what is in need of more or less focus in future titles. While most developers keep this information to themselves, BioWare has chosen to make much of the data from Mass Effect 2 public (via IGN).

Some of the interesting findings include that the soldier class was used more than all of the others combined, about fifty percent of players imported a character from the original Mass Effect, about fifty percent of players who started the game finished it, eighty percent of players used a male Shepard, fifteen percent of conversations were skipped, and average completion time for the game was about thirty three hours. About the process, executive producer Casey Hudson states “Ultimately what it means for players is that we don’t have to guess anymore about what players are doing. We can actually learn about what they like and what they don’t like and just try to focus on building the good stuff.”
