BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma Revealed

BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma Revealed

None

A few days ago, Arc System Works announced yet another installment of the BlazBlue fighting game series. Set to come out in winter 2012, BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma will continue the story of the BlazBlue cast and their journey to Ikaruga.

The game will feature massive changes to the fighting system and roster. While Mu-12, Lambda-11, and Nu-13 are all absent, three new characters, Bullet, Amane Nishiki, and Azrael are joining the roster. Bullet appears to be an up-close boxing type character that is less mobile but has more ranged options than Makoto. Amane is an androgynous male dressed in a pink kimono who fights with a scarf. Finally, Azrael is a muscular street brawler-type character. Particular details on these characters’ playstyles have not yet been revealed.

Several changes to the gameplay system have been announced as well. The Guard Primer system has been removed, instead being replaced with the Guard Crush system, which lets you spend meter to get through an opponent’s guard with certain moves. Gold bursts have been removed, though defensive bursts are still in. There is also a new “overdrive” system as well. Essentially, every character has an overdrive bar that fills over time. When it fills completely they can enter overdrive mode, which powers them up and changes the properties of their attacks.

All of the returning cast is going to be updated as well. Most of them will receive new costumes and animations. Noel, for example, no longer wears her hat. They will also all be given new moves. Tager has a new body-splash-looking move. We will go more in depth on these changes in our official preview.

Of course, BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma is following in UMVC3’s footsteps in that it’s a new game set to come out mere months after the franchises last installment. Is it too much too soon?
