Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel Confirmed

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel Confirmed

A couple days ago we reported on a rumor that said Borderlands was going to get a Midquel … a pre-sequel as it were. At the time it was only a rumor, but now Gearbox has stepped forward to confirm that it is real. Everything we have heard, from the playable cast, to fragtrap, to the moon and the space station, to the oxygen mechanics, to cryo ammo, and more were real. Heck, it’s even actually called “ Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel .”

The game runs off the Borderlands 2 engine, and is meant to be a sort of holdover until next-gen systems get a higher attach rate, and Gearbox can work on Borderlands 3 . It will only be coming out for the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC, and will likely not show up on next-gen consoles. The game is being developed by 2K Australia and apparently will have a lot of Australian in-jokes written into the script.

But why no next-gen Borderlands ? Well, according to Randy Pitchford, it’s just simple match. More copies of Borderlands 2 have been sold than PS4s and Xbox One’s have been sold. So, if they made Borderlands 3 for next-gen systems, they are almost guaranteed to sell the game worse than if they sold it for last-gen systems. When more people go next-gen, then it’s time to start thinking of Borderlands 3 .
