Call of Duty: Black Ops to Feature Command Elements, Four-player Co-op, Scoped Crossbows, and Alternate Ammo

In an exclusive gameplay demo with Treyarch, Brett Molina of USA Today gaming blog, Game Hunters, revealed a number of interesting twists that’ll come to pass in Call of Duty: Black Ops.

The level demoed by Treyarch, called “WMD”, starts off with players giving orders to a ground incursion force from high in the sky via an SR-71 Blackbird. While it’s unclear whether issuing commands will be a prominent part of the game, this RTS-like element, even if only cinematic, is novel.

Perhaps more interesting is the fact that four developers were playing the level at once. The prospect of cooperating in such a fashion online is quite compelling indeed. Such an innovation really should give the game an interesting feel that will set it apart and be true to the Black Ops subtitle of the game. The only question that remains is whether local co-op will also be available.

Finally, the article spoke of delivering stealthy kills with scoped crossbows – nice! Also, alternate ammunition types will be able to be used and switched out on the fly. The example given by Molina described players switching from a standard bolt tip to that of an explosive head for their crossbows.

Expect many more hard details soon.
