Blizzard Entertainment has called its most recent expansion, World of Warcraft: Cataclysm, “the fastest-selling PC game of all time.” This was based on the fact that the expansion sold 3.3 million copies on launch day alone, beating the record held by previous WoW expansion Wrath of the Lich King. Cataclysm is maintaining this claim with 4.7 copies sold in the first month. This wraps up an incredibly strong year for Blizzard, which launched the mega-hit StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty just this past summer. StarCraft II reported the highest ever first-day sales for a strategy game.  With game after game smashing sales records, I think it’s safe to say that Blizzard Entertainment isn’t going away any time soon. |
