CDProjekt Runs Into Legal Woes

CDProjekt Runs Into Legal Woes

None

It would appear that summer is the season of gaming lawsuits. Following on the heels of those by Tomita Technologies and Square-Enix, NAMCO Bandai is now suing The Witcher 2 developer CDProjekt RED. The cause? A distribution dispute.

When The Witcher 2 was released on PC, CDProjekt self-published the title in its home territory of Poland, but partnered with a sizable retinue of other publishers in various other territories: Atari in North America, 1C Company in Russia, and NAMCO Bandai in Europe.

Now, with the Xbox 360 version on the horizon, CDProjekt has named THQ as its publishing partner in Europe. NAMCO Bandai is not happy about this decision.

Regarding the suit, CDProjekt RED seems entirely composed. CEO Adam Kicinski stated that, “The agreement that we signed last year concerned only the distribution of The Witcher 2 for the PC. The records were carefully clarified to avoid any ambiguity.” He hopes for a settlement, but is confident that CDProjekt will win if the case goes to court.
