It would appear that summer is the season of gaming lawsuits. Following on the heels of those by Tomita Technologies and Square-Enix, NAMCO Bandai is now suing The Witcher 2 developer CDProjekt RED. The cause? A distribution dispute. When The Witcher 2 was released on PC, CDProjekt self-published the title in its home territory of Poland, but partnered with a sizable retinue of other publishers in various other territories: Atari in North America, 1C Company in Russia, and NAMCO Bandai in Europe. ![]()
Regarding the suit, CDProjekt RED seems entirely composed. CEO Adam Kicinski stated that, “The agreement that we signed last year concerned only the distribution of The Witcher 2 for the PC. The records were carefully clarified to avoid any ambiguity.” He hopes for a settlement, but is confident that CDProjekt will win if the case goes to court. |
