Censorship Doesn’t Matter With Mods

Censorship Doesn’t Matter With Mods

People have been quite upset about a few game releases recently. Street Fighter V had a suggestive move from R. Mika removed. Tecmo Koei isn’t releasing Dead or Alive Xtreme 3 outside of Japan. Nintendo took a head patting minigame out of Fire Emblem Fates . All three situations had people crying censorship. While people with consoles and handhelds are pretty much stuck with what they get, those with PCs have the freedom to fix things to their liking.

Thanks to mods, cut content isn’t the issue it once was. Yes, it’s inconvenient to not have the game be exactly what you thought it was, but people have the ingenuity to find ways to “build” the game they want from official releases. With fan created content, the final product can live up to your hopes and dreams on PC.

Street Fighter V is probably the best example. People were upset about altered camera angles in the final release that didn’t allow them to see as much of R. Mika and Cammy as they’d like. A modder named CENAWINSLOL brought both back after launch. Another modder, named xHECZx , has added beards for Ryu and Ken, a Chun-Li bikini, and thong for Laura to the game. Though Capcom supposedly made Street Fighter V harder to mod, it’s already happening.

It’s also been happening for quite some time to Dead or Alive 5: Last Round , which should help make up a bit for Xtreme 3 not getting a worldwide release. With mods, people can make it the game they want, too. Guest characters have been added, like Darkstalkers ‘ Morrigan and Lilith . There are also plenty of mods changing up costumes and outfits. (Yes, there are nude skins too.) Even though the game wasn’t exactly what people wanted, fans have made what they really want happen.

Censorship Doesn’t Matter With Mods

It’s a trend that’s been going on for years, ever since people realized they could mod games. Those with the skills to realize their dreams are going to make it happen. Whether it’s adding stuff back into the game that was cut, as with Street Fighter V , or making new content that was never promised. People are changing the game.

Which is why PC players, at the very least, shouldn’t worry too much about games not being exactly what they want at launch. Even if something does get cut due to creative decisions or to please the masses, all you have to do is be patient. If you wanted it in the game, odds are others did too, and eventually someone with the time and talent will bring the content back to the game with mods.
