You just know that when Nintendo hosted an open-ended poll for new Smash Bros . characters, Cloud Strife was the choice of many voters. Final Fantasy VII is a defining title for a generation of gamers, after all. What we didn’t expect was that Square Enix and Nintendo would get together and actually make this collaboration happen.
Until now. Reggie pulled a “one last thing” during today’s Nintendo Direct, and it was a doozy. Players will be able to wield the Buster Sword once more, likely long before the Final Fantasy VII remake actually comes out. Cloud will be appearing as a DLC character for Super Smash Bros. Wii U and 3DS at an unannounced future date. There will also be a Midgar-themed stage that looks pretty crazy. Check it out in Cloud’s intro video, below.
