Colin Cowherd Leaves ESPN after Blasting Gaming

In April, ESPN’s Colin Cowherd said something particularly inflammatory after the channel broadcast a Heroes of the Storm competition. Specifically, he said if he ever had to treat gaming as he would normal sports, or cover it in any way, he would quit the company.

“If ESPN ever forced me to cover that, or do play-by-play, I would quit.”

“Somebody lock the basement door at mom’s house, and don’t let ’em out,” Cowherd added, referencing the players. “I will quit this network if I am ever asked to cover that.”

…. And now Cowherd has quit.

“We’ve enjoyed a mutually beneficial run with Colin for over a decade,” ESPN boss John Skipper said. “He came to national prominence on ESPN with his unique perspective on sports and society. Endings also bring new beginnings, for ESPN and Colin, and we thank him and wish him the best.”

Maybe ESPN was going to force Cowherd to cover an upcoming gaming marathon like Summer Games Done Quick. We could only hope.
