Corporate VP at Microsoft Suddenly Resigns

Corporate VP at Microsoft Suddenly Resigns

In a bit of unexpected news from the Microsoft camp today, corporate VP of Media and Entertainment Blair Westlake has quit.

Just a few days off of a decent showing from Microsoft at this year’s CES, Westlake released the following statement: “It has become clear to me that the organization is moving in a direction that does not fit either my expertise or my skill sets. Over the last few months Microsoft has been undergoing a large-scale reorganization. During that period, I have had the privilege of working with numerous talented and professional people. While I will miss their company and our interaction, I truly believe that this move is in the best interest of all parties concerned.”

Westlake had formerly served as chairman of Universal Television (previously working 19 years as an exec with Universal Studios) prior to his tenure at Microsoft. His biggest contribution in his decade spent with the Xbox system could be considered his influence in pushing the console to embrace a more of an entertainment centered approach in addition to gaming.

Microsoft also commented on his departure, stating that Westlake, “…made valuable contributions to the company and we wish him success in his future endeavors.”
