Death of Harold Ramis Won’t Stop Ghostbusters 3

Death of Harold Ramis Won’t Stop Ghostbusters 3

We lost a huge film icon this week with the passing of famed writer, director and actor Harold Ramis. However, as is the case with much involving Hollywood, not even the death of a franchise staple can stop the gears already in motion.

Many expected the loss of Ramis (who helped write the original and of course played nerdy scientist Egon) would result in the production being shut down. Also, considering the possibility of only featuring two of the original Ghostbusters at this point (with Bill Murray still being a question mark and an outspoken critic over the years), it seemed to be the final nail in the coffin. Not so, apparently, as the film will move forward as planned. It turns out; Ramis was only slotted for a cameo appearance, due to the new flick focusing on the next-generation of Ghostbusters . This is in line with what we’ve heard from Dan Aykroyd in the past, who’s stated the plot centers on a new team having to deal with the fall-out of scientific research that ultimately threatens our very reality.

So it would appear that after the films storied past (featuring crazy plot speculations and infamous casting problems), the pieces have finally seemed to fall into place. It’s still scheduled to start shooting in Cleveland this year; however, we’re unclear at this point if the current rewrites will push the release date back even further (which has not yet been announced).
