Ivan Reitman No Longer Directing Ghostbusters 3

In the wake of Harold Ramis’ death, it would appear that we continue to move further and further away from ever seeing a real Ghostbusters sequel. Now, Director Ivan Reitman has resigned his post.

Reitman revealed that it was ultimately the loss of his friend that caused him to re-evaluate his involvement in the project, stating, “When I came back from Harold’s funeral, it was really moving and it made me think about a lot of things.” Of course, Reitman and Ramis have been tied to the hip on projects for years, dating back to the mid-80’s.

He also reveals that a sequel is still planned, but is being reworked. While no longer interested in helming the project, Reitman does state that he’ll remain involved in some capacity. “We now have a draft that is very good. That the studio is very excited about… It’s a version of ‘ Ghostbusters ‘ that has the originals in a very minor role….I just finally met with Amy and Doug Belgrad when I got back. I said I’d been thinking about it for weeks, that I’d rather just produce this Ghostbusters . I told them I thought I could help but let’s find a really good director and make it with him. So that’s what we’ve agreed will happen.” Says the former director.

I think it’s official: the real Ghostbusters 3 is now just a ghost itself, as what we’ll get is nothing like fan’s had anticipated. I suggest playing the Ghostbusters game from last-gen; it’s as close as we’ll ever get at this point.
