E3 2016: Nintendo Not Competing Against MS, Sony on Power

E3 2016: Nintendo Not Competing Against MS, Sony on Power

With this year’s E3, there was a lot of talk about new hardware – both before and after the show. Everyone was wondering if Sony would reveal its upgraded PS4, and rumors that Microsoft would be showing off multiple new boxes had everyone looking forward to a premature beginning of the next console generation. We all knew Nintendo wouldn’t be showcasing its NX, but that didn’t stop Bloomberg from asking what we’re all thinking: Now that we know Sony and Microsoft are indeed working on new, powerful boxes, how might the NX stack up?

Reggie Fils-Aime answered in the most typically-Nintendo way you could imagine. “For us, it’s not about specs,” he said. “It’s not about teraflops, it’s not about the horsepower of a particular system. For us, it’s about the content. We’re focused on bringing our best entertainment to both the Wii U as well as the NX in the future. So for us, whatever Microsoft and Sony are doing in terms of talking about new systems, that’s for them to fight out in that red ocean.” We love Nintendo for its creativity, but that blue ocean strategy didn’t work out for them so well this past generation. Let’s hope they learned their lesson and don’t limit themselves this time.
