Sibling rivalry is a part of life, and if there are two franchises that can be equated to brothers rolling around on the floor with each other in a headlock…it’s the Battlefield and Call of Duty series. (CheatCC has indulged in it a tiny bit .)
It’s no secret that in the world of military shooters, Call of Duty is king. Of course, that doesn’t mean that its Battlefield counterpart wouldn’t love to unseat it and take its crown. Both franchises have become huge power-houses in the world of FPS, and let us not forget, Modern Warfare 3 set records for sales during its initial release (much as Grand Theft Auto V is doing right now )
EA executive VP Patrick Sodurlund has galvanized his intent to overtake the Activision’s behemoth in an interview he did with MCV stating, “Competition is good. It brings the best out of people. If there was only Battlefield or only Call of Duty , then the development teams might have been a little bit more content. We don’t look at them necessarily and mimic what they do. Maybe Activision wasn’t thinking about us much when we made Battlefield 3 , but I can tell you, they are thinking about us now.”
EA and DICE are banking on quality of quantity. Call of Duty has always maintained a yearly release title, and the Battlefield series has not. DICE has recently even stated that the team has no plans to release a Battlefield every year , as that would affect the game’s quality.
Call of Duty: Ghosts releases November 5 th of this year. Battlefield 4 releases October 29 th .
