EA Details Battlefield 3 Battlelog, Sales Projections

None

Call of Duty isn’t the only series getting a suite of community features. EA and DICE have taken some time, in a recent Battleblog post, to detail the Battlefield 3 Battlelog. Intended as a form of social network, the Battlelog will allow players to create connections to other players with whom they can communicate and compare stats, as well as show you what your friends are up to. With this feature, EA and DICE plan to provide a snapshot of any given individual player, enabling potential teammates, or competitors, to dig deeper and figure out just what the individual does well, and where he or she flounders.

Further enticing comparisons to the Call of Duty franchise, analyst firm Cowen & Company has been tracking Battlefield 3 pre-order numbers and is pleased to report that the game’s pre-sell numbers are “roughly comparable” to those of Call of Duty: Black Ops. Crashing the party, however, is Modern Warfare 3, which Activision says is tracking “significantly ahead” of the previous entry’s numbers.

Electronic Arts has made it clear that their mission with Battlefield 3 is to displace Call of Duty as the premier military shooter series. With Call of Duty growing year after year, though, is it a realistic goal? We’ll find out this winter, when both series’ newest entries hit shelves.
