Ex Watch_Dogs Devs Working on New Online Brawler

Devolver Digital has just picked up a fascinating new game being developed by Sloclap, a Paris-based studio composed of ex-Ubisoft staff who previously worked on Watch_Dogs and Ghost Recon . Its new game, Absolver , is unlike anything they’ve done before. Sloclap describes Absolver as “online melee action.” It has a very unique aesthetic – very elegant, very French – and the combat looks to be equal parts dance and weapon play.

Players will assume the role of a masked “Prospect,” a combatant who has taken a sacred vow to join the Absolvers. The Absolvers are an elite corps of fighters tasked with maintaining balance in the world of Adal. As you roam about the world, you’ll encounter other Prospects and Absolvers, and players will have to decide who poses a threat and who they can trust. “These moments are filled with tension as intentions to battle, trade, or befriend are never clear.” If it comes down to it, the combat system looks refreshingly novel and fun to watch. “Position yourself in one of four tactical stances during real-time battles and execute devastating attacks, dodges, and parries. Movement becomes your weapon as you engage in solo duels or intense three-on-three melee battles.” The game will include a co-op PvE mode as well.

Absolver is headed to PC eventually, and Sloclap has yet to announce what other platforms, if any, the game will release for. It looks like my kind of game, and I was happy to sign up for the official newsletter for updates, which you can find here . Enjoy the reveal trailer below:
