Unlike the console versions of Fallout 4, the PC version allows players to enter cheats via the Command Console. These Command Console codes can be used to activate gameplay cheats or instantly spawn items. Nearly every item and weapon in Fallout 4 has its own console code, as do the player’s companions. Not only can players use the Command Console to change how Fallout 4 plays, but they can also instantly spawn virtually any object.
How Do Console Commands Work?
While it might seem that opening up something called the “Command Console” would be an involved process, it’s anything but. As players are wandering around The Commonwealth in Fallout 4, simply press the tilde (~) key. This will bring up the Command Console, which will allow the player to input cheats and spawn items.
Players will want to make sure to input codes exactly as they appear in our list here, including spaces and numerical figures. Any code that features [#] in its description indicates the need to input a number. Additionally, in order to avoid making Fallout 4 crash or become unstable, players will want to not spawn too many of any particular item. As an example, if the inventory max for an item is 999, do not input a number higher than 999.
Another important note is about setting player level. Players can use the level up command in the Console to set the player level to whatever they desire. However, even though Fallout 4 has no level cap, it cannot support levels above 65,535. In order to avoid making Fallout 4 crash or become unstable, make sure to not set the Sole Survivor’s level any higher.
Codes That Affect Gameplay/Cheats
All of the console commands in this list will affect the gameplay of Fallout 4 in significant ways. In addition to FPS staples such as God Mode, players can turn clipping on or off and disable NPC AI. Can’t find that pesky key or passcode to unlock a door or terminal? No sweat – simply highlight the door or terminal and input the “unlock” command. Note that the codes to spawn items in the player inventory or around the player require item codes, which we will cover next.

Item and Object Codes
Both the “player.additem [item code] [#]” and “player.placeatme [object code]” require input of the correct codes for corresponding objects and items. While one of these codes will place the item directly into the player’s inventory, the other will spawn the item or object nearby. Obviously you can’t hold an NPC in your inventory, so some of these codes are situational.
Outside the typical assortment of regular use items or weapons and armor, players can spawn the collectible Bobbleheads in Fallout 4 (though doing so negates one of the game’s funner challenges). In addition to being able to spawn NPC companions to appear with the player, you can spawn their perks. Being able to instantly unlock each of the companions’ combat perks is a huge boon and shouldn’t be overlooked if you plan on using console commands.
