Mortal Kombat 11 is coming. This is a game people have wanted for years. Back when Injustice 2 was announced, people were probably hoping and wishing the hints leading up to it would somehow result in a quicker Mortal Kombat installment. But on April 23, 2019, the time will actually come again. We’ll step into the goriest and most brutal fighting ring out there.
But for now, let’s speculate about what should happen with this game. So far, four characters have been revealed. Dark Raiden and Scorpion starred in the reveal trailer at The Game Awards 2018. Shao Kahn has been announced as the pre-order incentive. A mysterious, bald woman next to an hour glass showed up too. But these seven should also maybe appear in the next game!
Let’s kick this off with someone relatively new to the Mortal Kombat universe. D’Vorah made her debut in Mortal Kombat X . She had an interesting run in the story mode, given she got to fight three characters and there is a twist in her ending, and is the first Kytinn we have been able to use. Plus, she has a cool fighting mechanic involving insects. It feels like there’s more in her story we need to see.
One more Mortal Kombat X character, before we move on. Kung Jin is the cousin of Kung Lao and descendant of the Kung Lao, and he was on a bit of a mission. He had to face the revenant version of a loved one in his first game and still bears a grudge against Raiden for not doing more to help. Since it seems Dark Raiden is the one appearing in Mortal Kombat 11 , it would be a perfect time to have Kung Jin try and get revenge.
Yes, I realize Cassie Cage was basically created to have an excuse to probably phase Johnny Cage and Sonya Blade out of the series, but I feel like Sonya still needs to return for Mortal Kombat 11. As a general and combat veteran, she knows what is at stake. She’s not going to risk someone else messing up when earth’s fate is at stake. Sonya Blade is an icon and you pretty much can’t have a Mortal Kombat game without her.
Like Sonya Blade, Liu Kang is an icon. He was Earthrealm’s defender and champion. He now holds a very different role alongside Kitana. He has starred in games, movies, comic books, and even a novel. While things happened over the course of some of the most recent games, he is left in a very interesting position when Mortal Kombat X ends. This definitely needs to be explored in Mortal Kombat 11 , especially given his current relationship with Raiden.
A lot of these choices I have made were chosen due to the way their stories ended in Mortal Kombat X , and Tanya is no exception. While she was a DLC character, her story ended in an interesting way. She was one of the only survivors of a group that was attempting to fight Kotal Kahn. This means she is in a position where her cause remains unfulfilled, but she lived to wreak havoc another day. The fact that she is still around makes me wonder if she has a new plot she will be working on in Mortal Kombat 11.
You can’t have a Mortal Kombat game without Sub-Zero. I think it is some sort of rule. He has been in every single one, and even had his own game and showed up in Injustice. This ninja, no matter who takes his identity, has a critical role in Mortal Kombat lore. He even ended up surviving the events of the last game, good as new. The game couldn’t have seen the end it did without him and his clan. He is a pivotal member of the team saving the world, and he needs to come back.
Goro was DLC in Mortal Kombat X, but was otherwise absent in the game’s events. Why? Because his race, the Shokan, didn’t choose a side. Mortal Kombat 11 will presumably feature new alliances. Goro can be a valuable ally, as well as one of the coolest enemies people can face. It seems like the new game is an opportunity to have him pick a side and bring him back as one of the most fearsome mid-bosses a Mortal Kombat player will have to face.
