Final Fantasy 8 Comes to Steam

Final Fantasy 8 Comes to Steam

The newest Square Enix game to come to Steam is, oddly enough, one of the most controversial. Yes, you can now play Final Fantasy 8 and bask in the glory of Squall’s emo crusade against space witches on your very own PC.

Final Fantasy 8 can be picked up for a meager twelve dollars on Steam. The game isn’t a remake of any sort, relying on teh same visuals it had back in the days of the PS1. However, the gameplay is updated just a tiny bit. For example, a new “magic booster” option allows your magic inventory to hold 100 extra spells of Cure, Cura, Curaga, Fire, Fira, Blizzard, Blizzara, Thunder, Thundara, Sleep, Blind, Silence, Berserk, Bio, Esuna, Aero, Confuse, Break, Zombie. Basically, it makes junctioning early game spells useful late game, rather than simply having everyone junction spells like Ultima and call it a day.

In addition, the Chocobo World mini game, whch was released as a standalone application in previous versions of Final Fantasy VIII for PC, is now included. It can be accessed directly from the in-game launcher. 45 Steam Achievements have also been included, just so you can show off your FFVIII completionist skills. It’s also worth noting that the PC version has a different soundtrack from the original PS1 version.
