Final Fantasy XIV and Yo-Kai Watch Have a Crazy Crossover

Final Fantasy XIV and Yo-Kai Watch Have a Crazy Crossover

Final Fantasy XIV is one of today’s most popular MMORPGs globally. Yo-Kai Watch is a Pokemon-esque monster catching game that has taken off big-time in Japan, and less so over here. These two things may seem to go together like peanut butter and jet fuel, but that’s not stopping them from having an odd crossover event in Final Fantasy XIV .

From July 26 to October 3, Final Fantasy XIV players will have the chance to collect a whackload of Yo-Kai miniatures, unique weapons themed after each Yo-Kai, and even a super-goofy flying Yo-Kai mount. Just like in the Yo-Kai games, players will be granted a Yo-Kai Watch accessory. If they wear it while completing FATE group events in the base game’s regions of Thanalan, La Noscea, and The Black Shroud, they’ll earn coins that can be used to purchase Yo-Kai miniatures like Jibanyan and Manjimutt.

Here’s where it gets more complicated. Once you’ve bought your miniature of choice, bring it out and use the in-game Yo-Kai Medallium to see which special FATEs to take it to. If you complete these FATEs with a gold or silver rating, you can earn Legendary Yo-Kai Coins. These special coins can be exchanged for weapons based on the Yo-Kai that’s been following you around. There’s one weapon design per class, so pop on over to the Lodestone (linked below) to see which miniature you need to earn your weapon(s) of choice.

If you’re not interested in goofy weapons, you can just concentrate on earning all the Yo-Kai minions instead. If you collect them all, you can get a weird flying mount based on the Yo-Kai Whisper. It looks even more out of place in Final Fantasy XIV than the weapons, but it should satisfy players with a strong appreciation for goofiness. I… might be one of those players. Don’t tell!
