Final Fantasy XIV Details Revealed

None

In Japan’s Famitsu magazine, details surrounding Final Fantasy XIV’s races and job types were fleshed out.

According to IGN’s John Tanaka, races include the Hyuran, Miqo’te, Lalafell, Elezen, and Roegadyn. These sentients have distinct physical abilities and tendencies, some of which are even split into sub-types that further distinguish them. For instance, the Hyuran are split into lowland and highland varieties. Likewise, the Miqo’te have to prominent clans that take advantage of the day or the night. Subsequently, these disparate groups are known as the Sun Seekers and Moon Keepers. Apparently, region of origin will play an important role in character selection, creation, and back-story.

What’s more, Tanaka points out that the revealed races “correspond, respectively, to FFXI’s Hume, Mithra, Tarutaru, Elvaan, and Galka races.” Moreover, fans of the IP will instantly recognize the races once the official character art is revealed.

Additionally, four job types were also revealed: Fighter, Sorcerer, Gatherer, and Crafter. Like some of the races, these main categories also have sub-jobs that they encompass. For example, the Fighter includes Swordsman and Archer, while Crafter includes Blacksmith and Cook occupations. Interestingly, the game’s producer, Hiromichi Tanaka, let it be known that classic Final Fantasy classes such as the Black Mage won’t find their way into the MMO.
