Square Enix recently confirmed a summer 2013 launch date for Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. The game has seen multiple beta tests and delays in its long development period, and is set to enter a third closed beta this June, but fans now have a sense of finality regarding its official release.
Naoki Yoshida, the game’s producer, commented on the struggles of the FF name, saying “We believe Final Fantasy XIV is a starting point, and that players joining us will think ‘Oh wow, this is great, I’ll see what they can do with Final Fantasy XV or XVI’” when questioned about fan loyalty.
Although Yoshida’s optimism is encouraging, you can’t help but wonder how the developer can already be talking sequels when the upcoming title is still in relative infancy. Luckily, the June beta period will be open to PS3 and PC users, so players will finally get a solid feel for the rehashed MMO.
