Final Fantasy XV to Feature Amano-Inspired Monsters

Final Fantasy XV to Feature Amano-Inspired Monsters

Square Enix has released new concept art that depicts two enemies from the upcoming release of Final Fantasy XV. They also revealed some of the design philosophy that went into creating these monsters.

The first of these pictures is of a Goblin creature inspired by early Yoshitaka Amano art from Final Fantasy II . Maybe inspired isn’t quite the right word, though, as the team made every effort to preserve the actual drawing and unique artstyle of Amano as they dropped it into the game, a style that rarely happens. Typically, Amano’s art is used in title art and concepts. Seeing the Goblin fully rendered in the game is impressive.

The second creature is a horse-like monster named Mesmerize. This creation is reminiscent of Ixion, a monster that has been seen in the series before. With Mesmerize, the team wanted to create something that was a good balance of fantasy and realism. They decided to give it a protuberence like a seahorse because they found the idea intriguing.

Final Fanasy XV is shaping up to be a huge game, and it eases a bit of apprehension about its release to see how much detail is going into the game’s art. Fingers crossed that the title will surprise us, and the game will feel familiar yet exciting for long-term fans of the series.
