Gearbox Reveals The First Borderlands 2 Details

None

Fans of Gearbox’s Borderlands franchise started to salivate after last week’s Borderlands 2 announcement, but after today, they’ll barely able to contain their saliva. Their shirts will start to get saturated and their parents will start calling local hospitals. Today, Gearbox started revealing a few of the details for Borderlands 2.

One of the most interesting morsels of information is Gearbox’s decision to scrap all of the weapons from the original game and start from scratch. Players will purchase weapons from in-game gun dealers, and each manufacturer will have a unique theme for their guns.

The developer has also decided to scrap Mordecai, Lilith, Roland, and Brick, the playable characters from the original. Players will now choose from four new characters, though, Mordecai, Lilith, Roland and Brick will return as NPCs.

It sounds like there won’t be many new elements added, but one addition is an element called Eridium. Eridium functions as a type of currency, but also adds enhancements to guns vehicles and other elements.

All in all, it sounds like Gearbox is attempting to stay true to the original feel and style of Borderlands, while adding depth and replay value to its sequel.

Borderlands 2 is slated for a 2013 release, but I’m sure that Gearbox will keep teasing us with more details. You should probably start keeping a towel near your desk—your keyboard can’t take much more saliva.
