Guardians of the Galaxy Director Confirms Work on Sequel

Guardians of the Galaxy Director Confirms Work on Sequel

While Marvel’s latest epic Guardians of the Galaxy has already set huge records during its opening weekend (including the biggest Thursday release of 2014) have the gears already begun to turn on the sequel?

Although it’s no surprise (as Marvel already announced its upcoming film schedule which included a Guardians follow-up) some probably didn’t expect work to begin quite this fast. The film had barely been in theaters for two days before James Gunn made the announcement. In a statement recently released by the director, he states he’s not yet ready to say goodbye to this rag-tag group of unlikely heroes. “I’ve spent this weekend hard at work on the sequel. I couldn’t help myself! The results are nice but it’s really the creative process I love and that keeps me going. I’m on fire with this thing! The Guardians have so many hardships and heartaches and triumphs ahead of them, and I can’t wait to share them with all of you.” He touts.

While Guardians certainly features a cast of colorful characters, there’s no denying that one furry little Raccoon with a big attitude has become the breakout star. This fact was not lost on Gunn, who found it hard to walk away from one of his favorite characters. “…I was having trouble letting go of Rocket, and that I was going to miss him. But seeing him (and Groot, and the rest of the team) embraced by the world like they have been, to be UNDERSTOOD, makes it a wonderful letting go. It’s like giving a foster pet up for adoption to the most wonderful parents in the world.” reveals the director.

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy is currently showing in theaters everywhere!
