Halo 5 Unranked Playlists in the Works

Halo 5 Unranked Playlists in the Works

Sometimes you don’t want to feel like your rep is on the line, ya know? If I had to voice a complaint about Super Smash Bros. on the Wii U, it’d be the lack of a unranked 1v1 mode. Currently if you just want to mess around without worrying about your win / loss ratio, you have to play 4-player smash, which can be really laggy if users are wirelessly connected to a slow network. Whenever I want a lag-free 1v1 match to try out some new offensive strategies, I have to play for glory, and that just adds unnecessary stress.

Apparently Halo 5 players have been voicing the same complaint. The new FPS from 343 Industries currently has no social playlists outside of Warzone and custom matches, which is a strange omission seeing as to how it’s been included in previous games in the franchise. Some players are led to believe that this was intentional; a strategy to drive more players into checking out Warzone and buying REQ packs. Studio head Josh Holmes has responded to frustrated fans: “There was no insidious motivation behind going all ranked for Arena,” Holmes said. “That was the design intent of the team working on that experience. That said, we’ve heard the requests and we are actively working towards supporting unranked playlists for Arena in a future update.” Casuals for the win! We’ll keep you up to speed with update information as soon as we know more.
