Historically Accurate Titanic Adventure Needs $250,000

After the initial phases of funding successfully garnered $20k in revenue (allowing developers to consult with historians, divers and experts), the next phase of recreating the Titanic in digital form is takings its next steps forward.

Dubbed Phase 3 , the team now looks to raise an additional $250,000 to move on to their goal of “…Recreating the entire Titanic in full detail and authenticity, including the voyage and sinking.” This will mean players will not only get to step foot on the famed ocean liner the night of this tragic event, but interact with passengers and crew while an epic story plays out before them (all in a race against time before the sinking). Yes it sounds a bit like the old-school PC title Titanic: Adventure Out of Time, but I don’t mind one bit.

As of this writing, Phase 3 has raised $12,281. According to the game’s page , there will be two separate modes which include:

  • FREE ROAM MODE , where the player can wander around the ship, the docks, and the city of Southampton with no objectives, minimal crowds, and no time limits.
  • STORY MODE , where the player must live in the confines of 1912 society and work to clear his name of horrible crimes, for which the police are chasing him. In the end, as the vessel begins to sink in real-time, the player must work to finish his mission before it is too late.

I for one am super-excited and can’t wait to see how a title like this would interface with upcoming VR tech like the Oculus Rift.
