Pokemon Go is just full of fun little secrets and nods to the original series. A recent discovery has been made (shout out to “smithnigel” and some other posters on Reddit ) that is sure to delight old-school Pokemon fans. As you are all undoubtedly aware, Eevee is one of the more common Pokemon you’re likely to find as you begin leveling up. The cool thing about Eevee is it can evolve into three different, more powerful Pokemon: Jolteon, Vaporeon, or Flareon (electric, water, and fire types, respectively). It only takes 25 candies to initiate the evolution, which is nice, but until now players have assumed that Eevee would evolve into one of its three forms randomly. As it turns out, there is a surefire way to force Eevee into the evolution of your choice.
Older Pokemon fans will remember an episode of the original anime that featured four brothers who all trained Eevees. The older three brothers had evolved their Eevees into each of the three forms using special stones: Sparky chose Jolteon, Rainer chose Vaporeon, and Pyro chose Flareon. If you nickname your Eevee Sparky, Rainer, or Pyro, it will evolve into the Pokemon that corresponds to that character. For example: I love Jolteon, so once I gather 25 Eevee candies all I have to do is nickname my Eevee “Sparky,” and then initiate the evolution to turn it into a Jolteon. This has been thoroughly tested by many players and has proven to work 100% of the time.
