When you think about the GTA franchise, you most likely think about the cars, among other things. It is called Grand Theft Auto, after all. However, cars aren’t the only vehicles players can drive around in the open-world sandbox. While they are a bit tougher to acquire, aircrafts can be flown around the skies of Los Santos. They can range from commercial planes to helicopters and even military fighter jets. So today, we will break down how to get an airplane and take to the sky in GTA V.
The Airport
The most obvious place to find an airplane would be the airport. Traveling to Los Santos International Airport, south of the city, is the easiest place to find a plane. There are multiple ways of entering the airport, but regardless, your wanted level will go up. If not, by breaking in, it will go up once you steal the plane.
When you are past the gate, drive or run up to any aircraft and enter it just like you would a car. You might need to maneuver the plane to the runway depending on how it’s parked. The most important part is building speed. You cannot take off a plane without speed, so drive it to the runway and accelerate it as fast as possible. Once you gain enough speed, the plane will begin to hover, and you can take off into the sky.
Fort Zancudo
Fort Zancudo is a military base in the northwestern part of Los Santos. Like the airport, there are multiple ways of entering the base, the most popular of which is jumping the gate using a ramp and car. When you enter the base, soldiers will immediately begin hunting you down, shooting guns and missiles at you.
As you drive, there will be a large hangar with fighter jets parked underneath. You can enter the jet like you would any vehicle, but it may take a few attempts. The jet is likely to be destroyed, killing you in the process. Even the runway and airspace around the base aren’t safe, as you will be shot at. However, if you successfully steal a jet, you will be rewarded with a fast aircraft that shoots missiles, destroying anything in its path.
Sandy Shores Airfield
The least risky option in GTA V can be a toss-up on aircrafts. Sandy Shores, north of Los Santos, is an airfield that sometimes has a plane or helicopter spawned. Players can easily steal these with little to no threat. The downside is that the aircraft are not always available, and driving there can take some time.
