id Makes Doom 4 Official; Rage Nearing Completion

None

Some of you may remember our May article about Doom 4, that’s when id unofficially announced the game via a job posting on their official site, while looking for development talent.

Well, QuakeCon 2008 was the scene for the highly anticipated, official announcement of Doom 4. Unfortunately, there aren’t many details about the title except for one visual nugget. According to id’s John Carmack, both Rage and Doom 4 will use id’s Tech 5 engine. However, Rage will run at a liquid 60 Hz, while Doom 4 will run at a respectable 30 Hz. That’s because Doom 4 will utilize far more detailed frames.

As far as Rage is concerned, those of you who have seen our E3 2008 coverage will know that it is a first-person, horror shooter that uses vehicles and mutant-like creatures in a post-apocalyptic world. id says the game is coming along nicely, but they have not given it any kind of firm timetable, as they never rush their games to market.
