In just 15 degrees off creepy, your Xbox One is going to recognize you, your friends, and even understand multiple conversations, as Microsoft ups the technological ante in the next-gen console war.
Lead developer Nick Burton touted some of the new features the next Kinect can do, stating: “This second iteration of Kinect can both hear and understand two people speaking at once, and additionally is able to see whether their mouths are moving in a dark room.”
I’ve always considered the Kinect technology somewhat of a gimmick even when it was first released for the Xbox 360. Most of the games that featured the technology reminded me of something I’d find on the Wii or even the Sony iToy from back in the day (remember those)? Now, with Microsoft really pushing the technology by integrating it into the Xbox One console, the new features (such as recognizing a player’s heart rate and mapping their face for in-game use) may finally push the technology to where it needs to be.
Does this raise privacy concerns for you and your family? Are you worried that Microsoft may have access to private conversions with a system that can detect the intimate goings on of a household, even when the gaming has stopped? Microsoft says not to worry, but let us know your thoughts!
