Insomniac Denies Marvel’s Spider-Man ‘Downgrade’ Issue

Insomniac Denies Marvel’s Spider-Man ‘Downgrade’ Issue

Sometimes, a game gets revealed during a show like E3, years ahead of its eventual release date. It’s not uncommon for said game to, despite claims of in-game footage, turn out a bit less beefed up in the visual fidelity department upon arrival. This can be due to a variety of factors, but regardless it can really cheese off the fans. A recent video sparked such a response from people awaiting Marvel’s Spider-Man , but Insomniac isn’t having it.

Insomniac Games’ James Stevenson has been shooting down angry Tweets left and right, ever since a slice of similar footage of Marvel’s Spider-Man led to accusations of a Watch Dogs -like “downgrade.” Stevenson claims to have spoken to engineers and artists within his company, and the answer he got back was that the newer video looks different because A) certain changes have been made with the environment such as the position of the sun, and B) video compression makes the newer video look less crisp.

We’ll all be able to judge for ourselves when Marvel’s Spider-Man hits the PS4 on September 7, 2018.
