Virtua Fighter Remix Summary
Let’s fight!
Virtua Fighter Remix is the…well, not remake nor remaster, of Virtua Fighter. It is an updated version of the very first one, complete with retextured graphics, newer models, and so on. The first Virtua Fighter came out in 1993, on the Sega Saturn. It was developed by Sega AM2 (with Remix being developed by Sega AM1) and was one of the first 3D fighting games. Basically, without Virtua Fighter, neither Tekken or Dead or Alive would have been as successful as they are now or even exist in the first place.
Virtua Fighter Remix is a remix of the first game, and with it, there have been changes. As mentioned, there have been updated graphics, but also new cheat codes as well. But, rest assured, the core gameplay remains the same. The goal is simple, use combos and special moves to defeat your opponent in a one-on-one battle. Use the full 3D environment to circle around your opponent and try to get a better position on them. But be warned! There are also stage hazards to contend with, such as ring outs, or walls that explode.
The matches are set up in a best-of-three style fight. This means you need to win two out of three matches to win the fight. Sounds easy, right? Wrong! Each fighter has their style, so you have to learn their various inputs to become the best fighter you can be!
Virtua Fighter Remix Premise
Unlike many fighting games, Virtua Fighter Remix focuses less on the story, and more on making sure the gameplay is as balanced as it can be. That said, there is a story and reasons as to why people are fighting each other. It is simply that the game focuses on the gameplay rather than the storyline.
Akira Yuki is a young martial artist, whose only goal is to become the strongest in the world and become stronger himself. To do this, he participates in the Ultimate World Fighting Tournament, and all kinds of fighters are signing up. As such, Akira sets out to prove himself as the greatest in the world. As for why, and who set this fighting scheme up in the first place, no one quite knows. Save those who whisper of a mysterious organization called “the Syndicate.” In addition, there is also another force at play, one called Judgement Six. They may be the same group, they may not be, but one thing’s for sure, they’re responsible for several tragedies and hardships around the globe.
Virtua Fighter Remix Main Characters
There’s quite a cast in this list of fighters.
- Akira Yuki. The “Ryu” of the franchise. He wants to be the very best warrior he can be and will happily fight anyone.
- Pai Chan. A movie star turned martial artist. Her mother struggled to support her and died early in her life. As such, she blames her father and has entered the tournament to face him.
- Lau Chan. Pai Chan’s father, a master of the Huyanquan style of fighting. Something of a deconstruction of wandering warriors, as he wasn’t there for Pai Chan or her mother when they needed him the most.
- Wolf Hawkfield. A hunter turned pro wrestler. He seeks not glory, but a challenge, as the wilds do not test him anymore, nor does the wrestling ring.
- Jeffry McWild. A fisherman who hunts the “devil shark,” and skilled in the art of Pankration (Greek Wrestling and boxing).
- Kage-Maru. A 10th generation ninja, he is hunting for an organization called Judgement Six, who he believes burned his village to the ground and killed his father.
- Sarah Bryant. The younger sister to Jacky Bryant, she is kidnapped by Judgment Six, and brainwashed by them to kill her older brother. Bad news for him, as she is a master of Mixed Marital Arts (MMA).
- Jacky Bryant. A professional race car driver and Jeet Kune Do user. Once caught in an accident and spending two years to recover, Jacky has discovered that Judgment Six was behind the accident in the first place. He joins the tournament to discover the reasons for this, and to rescue his little sister.
- Dural. A woman, covered from head to toe in some sort of metal, who acts as the final boss of the game. There have been several versions of her, and this one is none other than Kage-Maru’s mother.
