Judge Schools Billy Mitchell in Court Case against Cartoon Network

Judge Schools Billy Mitchell in Court Case against Cartoon Network

If you don’t know who Billy Mitchell is, I would resist looking him up on YouTube; he takes himself a little too seriously, and he probably checks all of the YouTube videos about himself every day to see which ones are getting more views. Let’s not give him that gratification. This is all you need to know about Mr. Mitchell: he’s famous for playing a perfect game of Pac-Man and for holding a high score on Donkey Kong for a long time. He loves to talk about going to Tokyo and how Namco honored and flattered him for his achievements.

A while after the release of a documentary about Mitchell called The King of Kong, Cartoon Network’s Regular Show started featuring a character named Garrett Bobby Ferguson (who always refers to himself in the third-person): a giant, bearded head with arms and legs that bears a striking resemblance to Mitchell. Apparently Mitchell was not flattered by the character and his hilariously childish obsession with winning arcade games, and sued Cartoon Network for “damages.” Some people will do anything to stay in the spotlight. Judge Anne Thompson threw out the case, claiming that GBF did not match the plaintiff in appearance, stating, “GBF appears as a non-human creature, a giant floating head with no body from outer space, while Plaintiff is a human being.” She hilariously added, hopefully while looking Mitchell straight in the eyes after realizing he had lost the case, “And when GBF loses his title, the character literally explodes, unlike Plaintiff.” BURN.
