Killzone: Shadow Fall Takes Up to 50 Gigs of Hard Drive Space

Killzone: Shadow Fall Takes Up to 50 Gigs of Hard Drive Space

With the growing demand of a “digital download” option for many games, Killzone: Shadow Fall proves the hard drive demands of a title like this will only continue to grow (clocking in at a massive 50GBs).

With recent titles like Grand Theft Auto V requiring you to allocate large portions of your hard drive space to the game just to play (disc one of GTA V requires a onetime install of 8GBs), it’s easy to see how hard drive space will become the next previous commodity in the world of gaming moving into the next-gen.

Speaking with EuroGamer at EGX 2013, Fergal Gara of Sony UK addressed how they plan to overcome the issue of such huge file sizes by saying: “The Play as you Download functionality, for example, means you don’t need the whole file before you go. This is a little bit counterbalanced by the fact the files themselves are getting bloody big. Killzone: Shadow Fall is an uber file – I think it’s cracking on for 50GB. It looks it, too, when you see it.”

With the landscape of video games changing and demand moving away from disc-based distribution, it’s clear that the desire for digital is growing and will only continue to become more popular. Regarding the next-gen step, Gara said: “…when you go into the next-generation you at least get to reset and start again and everything’s the same age and new. That helps.”
