Kojima Teases an Edgy New Game for Sony

Kojima Teases an Edgy New Game for Sony

Speaking yesterday on the DICE Summit stage in Las Vegas, Hideo Kojima was resolutely cryptic about Kojima Productions’ upcoming game for the PS4. Speaking through a translator, Kojima said, “I feel extremely free right now. I am trying to make a big game with a very small team. I am doing exactly what I want to do. I have no intention of changing anything in order to make it sell more. I want to create something that I want to play.” A Gamespot interview with Kojima has also recently been published in which he says in regard to his current project, “…Sony is supporting us to make a big game that’s edgy with a strong story that gives the player a lot of reedom, with new elements…”

Kojima and Guillermo Del Toro also had a very interesting dialogue on the DICE stage, during which Del Toro talks about their respective creative industries and how they’re shaped by the past. He says that as creatives, people like himself and Kojima are always looking forward, trying to see what the future holds and how they can tell their stories. Publishers and investors, on the other hand, are always looking back to see what makes money and make their funding decisions accordingly, and that’s why PT eventually got canceled. I can’t help but hope that Hideo is working on PT, and that Guillermo is helping.
