Konami Announces Metal Gear Survive

Konami Announces Metal Gear Survive

Konami just dropped a pretty big bomb at Gamescom, announcing that it’s working on a new Metal Gear game. Metal Gear Survive is a new four-player co-op game coming next year for the Xbox One, PS4, and PC. Judging by the trailer, which I’ll embed below, it looks like a mix between Resident Evil and Left 4 Dead . You’ll notice that neither of those series are anything like Metal Gear Solid , but Konami stated that stealth would play a role.

Survive is set in an alternate timeline following the events of Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes . Our four heroes seem to have been sucked into some kind of spacetime portal, and landed in a tech-zombie infested wasteland of some kind. It sounds pretty far out, but we’ll try to keep an open mind. The game will be running in the “Fox Engine,” a proprietary engine built from the ground up by Hideo Kojima and his team for Metal Gear Solid . Kojima is gone, but Konami still owns the Fox Engine. I guess they figured they had better do something with it. I’m not sure if this is the direction I would have gone, but I’m willing to be surprised.
