Tacoma is a sci-fi adventure game developed and published by indie video game developers Fullbright. Tacoma was first released for Linux, macOS, Windows, and Xbox One on August 2, 2017. It was later released for the PlayStation 4 on May 8, 2018.
Tacoma received positive reviews from critics who praised the game’s dynamic characters and emotional scenes. The game was nominated for multiple different awards by the Golden Joystick Awards. These nominations included Best Storytelling, Best Audio, Best Indie Game, and Xbox Game of the Year. If you’re looking for a heartfelt game, then Tacoma is perfect for you.
Tacoma Premise
Tacoma takes place in the year 2088, when much of society and space travel is controlled by powerful corporations. In this capitalist dystopia, an orbital space station, the Tacoma, owned by the Venturis Corporation, has been mysteriously abandoned. It is up to the player to piece together what happened on the Tacoma and discover the story of its crew.
Tacoma Main Character
Players in Tacoma will take on the role of Amitjyoti “Amy” Ferrier, an employee of the Venturis Corporation. She has been tasked with boarding the Tacoma and retrieving the station’s AI data. Another part of her job is to find the physical processing module of the station’s AI entity, ODIN.
Throughout the game, players will use Amy’s augmented reality device to review the actions and conversations of the Tacoma six human crew members. These crew members are Station administrator E.V. St James, operations specialist Clive Siddiqi, network specialist Natali Kuroshenko, engineer Roberta “Bert” Williams, medic Sareh Hasmadi, and botanist Andrew Dagyab. Learning their stories will help players solve puzzles and figure out the mystery of the Tacoma.
Tacoma Series
Tacoma is a narrative-based game with memorable characters. A specialty of indie developer Fullbright. Unfortunately, Tacoma does not have any prequels but sequels, but Fullbright has plenty of other games that focus on narrative. The company’s biggest game, Gone Home, revolves around a 21-year-old woman who returns home to find her family missing. Gone Home and Tacoma are the only released games from the studio, but they have another project in development called Open Roads.
Tacoma Cheat Codes
Sadly for players, Tacoma doesn’t have any in-game cheat codes. Tacoma is a narrative game with a few logic puzzles. There isn’t any combat, so there’s no reason to have cheat codes that make the game easier. Players should focus on enjoying Tacoma’s unique and innovative story.
