The player/main character takes a ferry to Orcas Island, Washington with Edith Finch’s journal. The journal details 17-year-old Edith’s experience returning to her ancestral home. She is the last surviving member of her family. The player then takes the perspective of Edith as she reexplores the house and its past. As the titular character, Edith, the player explores the Finch house and surrounding wilderness through a series of semi-linear rooms, paths, and secret passages. Edith’s narrations guide the player with her thoughts and experiences. The player explores the bedrooms of deceased family members that have been memorialized since the respective family member’s death.
