Super Adventure Island, originally named Master Takahashi’s Great Adventure Island in Japan, is an adventure platformer for the SNES. This challenging game was first released in Japan on January 11, 1992, and was the first Adventure Island game to appear on the SNES. Super Adventure Island was developed by Produce! and was published by Hudson Soft.

At the time of its release, Super Adventure Island had impressive graphics and an expansive soundtrack. Super Adventure Island has stood the test of time and still manages to be an enjoyable experience even today. In 2018, Super Adventure Island was placed on The Best Super Nintendo Games of All Time” list.

Super Adventure Island Premise

Super Adventure Island takes place on the mystical Adventure Island, where peace and tranquility reign. One day on the island, a woman named Tina is transformed into a stone statue by an evil sorcerous named Dark Cloak. Dark Cloak escaped to the legendary and dangerous Ice Mountain. In order to save Tina, players must travel to Ice Mountain and defeat Dark Cloak once and for all.

Super Adventure Island Main Character

Players take on the role of Master Higgins, protector of Adventure Island. Higgins is also the boyfriend of the lovely Tina. If Higgins ever wants to be with his girlfriend again, he’ll have to travel to Ice Mountain and fight his way through five different stages. An army of minions, traps, and boss battles stand in his way, but Higgins is up to the challenge.

Super Adventure Island Series

Super Adventure Island is a part of the Adventure Island series, which dates back all the way to 1986. In each game, players control Master Higgins as he fights the evils of Adventure Island and saves his love interest, Princess Tina. Multiple different games both precede and succeed Super Adventure Island. The last game for the series was Adventure Island Quest for mobile devices.

Super Adventure Island Cheat Codes

Many of the SNES’s games have cheat codes, and Super Adventure Island is no exception. Super Adventure Island has two in-game cheat codes that allow players to select levels and access a secret bonus level. For players that have a Game Genie or Pro Action Replay, there are also additional codes that grant additional lives, unlock new weapons, and give unlimited energy.
