Kirby Super Star is a quirky platform game compilation. It is a collection of seven games and two minigames. The game was released in March 1996 for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES). Kirby Super Star was developed by HAL Laboratory and published by the iconic gaming giant Nintendo.
While the game was one of the last to be released on the SNES, it was met with critical and commercial success. Kirby Super Star received overwhelmingly positive reviews from critics and players alike. It has even been called one of the best SNES games of all time by media like IGN and GamesRadar.

Kirby Super Star Premise
In Kirby Super Star, there are nine unique games for players to experience. Each one follows Kirby and his helpers’ adventures through Dream Land. Each one has a different objective and story. Players must complete all nine games to finish Kirby Super Star. All of them can be done in either single-player or two-player.
Main Games:
- Spring Breeze: A smaller version of the original Kirby’s Dream Land from 1992. King Dedede has stolen food and Sparkling Stars from the citizens of Dream Land. It is up to Kirby to get them back.
- Dyna Blade: This time Kirby must stop Dyna Blade, a giant bird, from destroying Dream Land’s crops.
- Gourmet Race: In this racing game, Kirby must race King Dedede while eating as much food as he can. This game has different modes where players can race King Dedede, a ghost version of their own fastest time, or race alone.
- The Great Cave Offensive: In this adventure, Kirby must explore a long, winding cave system for treasure, a whopping sixty treasure chests. This game features multiple easter eggs from other Nintendo games like The Legend of Zelda and EarthBound.
- Revenge of Meta Knight: This game is more story-driven than some of the others. Kirby must stop Meta Knight and his battleship, the Halberd, from taking over Dream Land. Each level has a time limit, similar to Super Mario Bros.
- Milky Way Wishes: This game mode is the largest of Kirby Super Star. The Sun and the Moon of Planet Popstar are fighting. Kirby must travel to nine planets and seek the help of a giant comet, Nova.
- The Arena: This mode has Kirby battle every boss from Kirby Super Star.
Minigames:
- Samurai Kirby: Kirby must face an enemy, either AI or a friend, in a contest to cause the most damage to Planet Popstar.
- Megaton Punch: In this timed game, Kirby must compete in a samurai showdown.

Kirby Super Star Main Character
Players can control the titular character, Kirby. This small spherical character is the face of the franchise. He has the ability to inhale his enemies and copy their abilities. In later games, the copy ability even changes his appearance.
But this pink protagonist is not the only playable character. Players can use the copy ability to create a helper that they or another player can control. These helpers look like the enemy Kirby stole the ability of.
Helpers:
- Bio Spark: These small, cloaked ninjas are made by copying the Ninja ability. They can throw daggers or use a slashing attack.
- Birdon: These adorable birds can be made by copying the Wing ability. Birdons fly faster than Kirby and have long-range attacks.
- Blade Knight: These tiny soldiers are skilled swordsmen with several movesets. These include overhead slash, sword beam, hat thrust, and more. Kirby can make them by copying the Sword ability.
- Bonkers: These muscled gorillas have intense attacks using large hammers. These can be made by copying the Hammer ability.
- Bugzzy: These purple beetles have several wrestler-like abilities including a body slam and multiple dash attacks. Kirby can make these helpers by copying the Suplex ability.
- Burning Leo: These helpers are original to Kirby Super Star and have unique fire abilities, like spitting out fire. They look similar to Kirby but have fire hair. These can be made by copying the Fire ability.
- Capsule J: These little robotic creatures wear jetpacks as they hover around. They can headbutt and ram through enemies and fast speeds. These helpers can be made by copying the Jet ability.
- Chilly: These angry-looking snowmen can be made by copying the Ice/Freeze ability. They can skate around and freeze enemies.
- Gim: Kirby can make these sporty little robots by copying the Yo-Yo ability. These helpers combine break-dancing with yo-yo tricks. Their yo-yo can be used as a projectile weapon.
- Knuckle Joe: These humanoid helpers are skilled in various martial arts techniques, including a Tomoe Throw. Kirby can make these by copying the Fighter ability.
- Parasol Waddle Dee: One of the most common forms of Waddle Dee, these carry around a polka-dotted parasol. These parasols help slow their fall and protect them from most damage. These helpers can be made by copying the Parasol ability.
- Plasma Wisp: These cool balls of plasma can fire plasma blasts and plasma needles. They can be made by copying the Plasma ability.
- Poppy Bros. Jr.: These joyful yet explosive helpers throw bombs at their enemies. Kirby can make these by copying the Bomb ability.
- Rocky: These sentient rocks can use several stone abilities like Stone Change, Heavy Smash, and Turbo Stone. These helpers can be made by copying the Stone ability.
- Simirror: These unique creatures use magic abilities to both shield and defend. They can also mirror themselves and create temporary clones. Kirby can make these helpers by copying the Mirror ability.
- Sir Kibble: This helper wears a golden suit of armor and can attack with his boomerang. Kirby can make this helper by copying the Cutter ability.
- Starship: This helper can only be summoned in two-player mode. It looks like a metallic bug. It can fire star bullets.
- Tac: This catlike thief can camouflage into the background and steal from enemies. Kirby can make this helper by copying the Copy ability.
- Waddle Doo: These helpers resemble the iconic Waddle Dees. They can attack with a Beam Whip. Kirby can make these helpers by copying the Beam ability.
- Wheelie: These sentient wheels can be ridden by Kirby. They can be made by copying the Wheel ability.

Kirby Super Star Cheat Code FAQ
Does Kirby Super Star have any cheat codes?
Yes! The game has one very useful cheat code that grants invincibility. There are also several exploits for players to try. And for those who have a Pro Action Replay or Game Genie, there are even more cheats for players to use.
What is a Pro Action Replay?
A Pro Action Replay is a cheat device that lets players input different cheats for multiple retro platforms. They manipulate the memory of the game code to allow cheats like more money or more saves.
What is a Game Genie?
A Game Genie is another cheat device, similar to the Pro Action Replay. They are available for retro platforms like the NES, SNES, original Game Boy, Genesis, and more.
Are the cheats permanent?
No, don’t worry. They last until you quit the game. So if you want to change things up again, you can next time you load it up.
What makes a cheat device different?
Since developers intentionally implement traditional cheat codes in their games, not every game has them. But that does not mean players don’t want them. Hence, cheat devices were born. Devices like the Game Genie allow players to do things the developer did not intend, while regular cheat codes are implemented by the developers.
