Mad Catz To Rerelease Rock Band 3 For The Holidays

None

Last year, the news that Harmonix would no longer be supporting their Rock Band 3 title on Nindendo’s Wii console did not surprise gamers. In fact, it was kind of surprising that they would still be supporting the game at all considering the 299 million dollar earnings loss that they reported in 2010. It was starting to look like the king of the music game genre had finally been given a terminal diagnoses.

But today, Mad Catz reported that they would be rereleasing Rock Band 3 this holiday season. “We are pleased to assume publishing responsibilities for Rock Band 3 this holiday season” said Darren Richardson, the President and Chief Executive Officer of Mad Catz Interactive, Inc. “Rock Band is the ultimate interactive experience for any music fan, whether they’re looking for a great party game to share with friends, playing through Rock Band’s 3,000 plus song library, or seeking out a fun way to learn guitar, drum, or keyboard skills using Rock Band 3’s PRO Mode.”

Mad Catz also plans to bundle upcoming rerelease with official Mad Catz accessories like the “Wireless Keyboard Controller, Wireless Fender Stratocaster Guitar Controller and Wireless Fender Mustang.”

Rock Band 3 was released to overwhelmingly positive reviews in 2010, but sales dwindled as players started moving away from instrument-based gaming. Hopefully the developer’s gamble will pay off and we’ll see a little life in the music game genre.

Either way, we should see the rebranded Rock Band 3 bundles hit shelves in time for the holidays.
