Madden Designer Sues EA

Madden Designer Sues EA

None

A lot of people worked on the original Madden video game. I’m assuming a lot of them got paid. However, one former employee is alleging that he did not get paid his due, and EA is cheating him out of a lifetime of royalties. Apparently the lead designer on the original John Madden Football (released in 1986), Robin Antonick, says that his contract includes stipulations about royalties from derivative works stemming from the original game.

When asked why it took twenty years to realize he wasn’t getting paid, Antonick said that he didn’t realize that the Madden franchise was still going strong with EA, and assumed that the franchise was now being independently developed. EA has responded to the claim and has dismissed it as “without merit.”
