It’s the end of an era as Maxis, the studio that is responsible for basically every Sim game ever made, has been shut down. Electronic Arts confirmed that the Emeryville, CA studio would be shuttered yesterday.
“Today we are consolidating Maxis IP development to our studios in Redwood Shores, Salt Lake City, Helsinki, and Melbourne locations as we close our Emeryville location. Maxis continues to support and develop new experiences for current Sims and SimCity players, while expanding our franchises to new platforms and developing new cross-platform IP,” EA said.
That being said, this won’t really effect any Maxis IPs. EA plans to continue developing The Sims and other Sim properties. Still, it’s a little sad to see one of the PC gaming giants go down.
