Metal Gear Multiplayer Locked Behind Paywall

Metal Gear Multiplayer Locked Behind Paywall

Preliminary reviews for Metal Gear Solid V; The Phantom Pain are coming out, and reviewers are finding something a little bit disheartening. The online mode for the game is not free. If you want to participate in Player vs. Player operations, you will have to spend money to do so.

The way it works is like this. Players can use real world money to purchase MB Coins. MB Coins can then purchase “open water” inside the game. You can then build an offshore base in this open water, and this is the base that will be used in PVP games. More coins equals more space for your base.

Konami was reached for comment and responded with this: “…unfortunately we don’t have any official details to share at the moment regarding the microtransaction model for F.O.B.. We should have more information for you next week though as those details are still being solidified.”

Another online mode, called Metal Gear Online, will be available on October 6 on consoles. This will be separate from the PVP mode previously discussed. It’s unknown whether or not this will cost money as well.
