Metal Gear Solid: The Phantom Pain release date Accidently Leaked

As discovered by eagle-eyed Reddit user DustyRetina, the release date for the upcoming addition to the Metal Gear Solid franchise, Metal Gear Solid: The Phantom Pain , was accidently leaked in an interview with game director Hideo Kojima by The Guardian on Friday, July 18.

The original closing paragraph of the interview read, “Metal Gear Solid: The Phantom Pain is due out on PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One on 17 March, 2015 .” According to DustyRetina, the paragraph was very quickly edited to read, “ Metal Gear Solid: The Phantom Pain is due out on PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One in ‘early 2015’.”

While no tangible release date has been announced as of yet, this accidental leak is the best suggestion of an actual release date for the game until confirmed otherwise.

Out of all 11 games that make up the main series of Metal Gear titles, The Phantom Pain places itself chronologically after the recently released–and heavily criticized– Ground Zeroes (the game’s prequel), and before the original Metal Gear title (of which a fan-made remake has been approved by Konami , the series’ publisher).

Recent gameplay footage of The Phantom Pain was released back in June, showcasing the game running at 1080p, 60 frames per second . With YouTube soon to be implemented with the functionality of viewing video game footage at 60 frames per second , you’ll soon be able to view The Phantom Pain’s gameplay in its most accurate representation.

Metal Gear Solid: The Phantom Pain is slated to launch on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Xbox One. A PC version is also in the works, but a PC port is currently not on the developer’s top priority list.

You can watch the 30 minutes of gameplay via the embedded video below. Please take note that the video itself features Japanese subtitles. The commentary itself, however, is in English.
