As they say, if you poke the bull…you get the horns. It seems that Valve may have woken the sleeping giant with its announcement of SteamOS being featured on what it calls its “Steam Machines,” which has now garnered the attention of Microsoft (who just happens to knows a thing or two about operating systems and console gaming).
In an interview given to Edge, Microsoft Corporate VP Phil Harrison says, “Valve is a very impressive company, and obviously we’re going to be watching what they do with great interest,” and he continues, “Clearly there is a lot of excitement around gaming in the living room on the biggest screen in the house, often times connected to a great sound system and creating that real intensely high quality game experience with a very powerful CPU and a very powerful GPU.”
This comes after the announcement that Valve’s new Steam Machines are expected to be a type of media center PC that is intended for the entrainment center of your living room, rather than act as a desktop.
With Valve always being such a huge purveyor of PC-based titles (such as its Half-Life and Portal series), it’s interesting to see the company’s shift in getting computer gamers away from their desks and onto the couch.
